Health Information Clerk


  1. Reviews and processes information requests from patients, physicians and other medical professionals, insurance companies, legal requests, and others.

  2. Review files, records, and other documents to obtain information to respond to requests.

  3. Communicate with customers, employees, and other departments to answer questions, disseminate or explain information, take requests for release of records and address complaints.

  4. Keeps current with ongoing or new legislative issues related to the release of information.

  5. Answer telephones, direct calls and take messages.

  6. Operate office machines, such as photocopiers and scanners, facsimile machines, voice mail systems and personal computers. Troubleshoot problems involving office equipment, such as computer hardware and software.

  7. Maintain and update filing, inventory, mailing, and database systems, either manually or using a computer.

  8. Open, sort and route incoming mail, answer correspondence, and prepare outgoing mail.

  9. Inventory and order materials, supplies, and services.

  10. Maintains the confidentiality of all patient, doctor, and facility information at all times both while on and off duty.

  11. Actively contributes to the morale and teamwork of the staff and facility and always presenting a positive attitude and patient-minded vision with patient satisfaction as the continuing goal.

Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent
Proficient in alphabetical filing and terminal digit filing oriented
Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
Proficient in computer applications (Windows, MS Office, Excel)
Excellent interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills
Ability to work with a variety of customers, patients, lawyers, and other healthcare providers in a diplomatic fashion

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
